Zong

I was equally blessed upon meeting the woman behind the famous Jonas Pares, Lolly Tiu, when I first dined at the said restaurant in the BGC branch.  She was introduced by a friend and it was mentioned that she also owns a Chinese restaurant in Westgate Alabang named Zong.

So when the perfect time for us to visit Alabang, I made sure that it has to be visited.

We were there a light snack after having our passport renewed at the DFA center inside Metro Department Store in Alabang Town Center.

We were the only clients then since it was only 5 pm and was fitting as I don't need to shy going around and snapping pictures of the place.

The following photos were taken from where we were seated.

It's an epitome of zen-inspired design with a mix of neutral colors.  You can also the see the eclectic mis-matchy chairs which gives out a playful-feel. Though the bamboo tables seem practical and functional, I don't think it fitted in to the semi-whimsical character of the colorful stools.

On the side where the kitchen is at, you will find it a little heavy on the oriental design with both the walls and the bar are covered with a wood-carving of some sort.  It may probably mean something to the owners as traditional Chinese believes in many principles and superstitions.

Lots of seating area both on the first and second floor, and the upstairs dining is best for private and intimate group dining such as group meetings and celebrating events.

I love how the outside lights floods the resto and above I found a particular fancy over a stool that has drawers.

And yes, I did tried to see that the drawers are usable.

I thought it was only a light snack we were having but Bhogs ordered their bestsellers, Fujian Style Rice with Scallop (P 298).  It's actually a huge bowl of rice with savory sauce filled up to the brim. the flavor was spot on and I love the thickened broth with it's umami.  Filled with all the vegetables, mushrooms, shrimps and scallop, this dish did not skimp at all in ingredients and flavor.  The sauce was enough to compensate for the rice which is in the same bowl.

This can serve to up to four people but we managed to clean in up, just the two of us.

Together with that we also had the Pork Ribs with Sweet Dark Vinegar.  Boy, at first I told myself I wasn't eating this heavy but when Bhogs made bite on one, it was one after the other in between spoons of the saucy rice.

The thin crispy outer layer and together with the tender and perfectly cooked meat made me decide to munch in to it more.

Okay, I thought we're sold already, but Bhogs still managed to order a soup. Seafood Soup Blend with Spinach.  It's a green thick soup and surprisingly loved it, as he was not fond of spinach.

Zong was very particular in seasoning their dishes, according to the menu, they don't put MSG on their food and they are flavored with natural spices and flavorings.

They have a very concise menu and it was not easy to look for a our kind of dish.  The waitsaff was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the dishes, which made us really comfortable dining there.  Di I mention that the service was super quick, well not only that we were the only ones there but still props for quickly preparing our orders.

If you happen to have the need to visit the bathroom, please do so so you can see how they were able to beautify it.

I'm totally crushing over those wood carved mirror frames.

Westgate is an ideal place to meet up with family and friends as it is not crowded and parking was plentiful plus there's a lot of other restaurants to choose from.
