Things Every Home Cook Should Know About Claro Palm Oil
Potato Corn Balls |
As a homemaker, I make sure that what I use in the kitchen and what I give my family will not be harmful to their health.
Just before I have gotten myself on a holiday vacation, I attended an event with mommy bloggers over an introduction on palm oil.
Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil that comes from the fruit grown on the African oil palm tree. But most of the palm oil in our market was sourced our from Malaysia. The fat that is squeezed out of the fruit from oil palm trees, is palm oil, also called "palm fruit oil."
At the event, the host showed us four stations in the room. Each stations proved that not all cooking oils are the same, well, I guess we know that already.

Making Reunions REAL Again
Rainbow Pasta Get the recipe here |
Filipinos are all about family. The mandatory family reunion happens not just once or twice a year, but every chance possible. From Birthdays to graduations all the way to the grand Christmas reunion, family gatherings are always filled with food, catching up, and loads of wholesome family fun.
However, it's quite noticeable to see many changes in traditional family dynamics — from a simple meal to dance numbers by the grandkids. Families are reaching out to friends and relatives abroad through technology. While technology can be used to connect people, it can also become a wall between family members.

Holiday Feasting Sans the Danger of High Blood Sugar
Holidazed!
Don't be left holidazed and deprived with a delicious feast!
We feel dazed and confused specially this season, when we wanted our appetites satisfied with all the food that we love, but are afraid to risk putting on pounds and shooting up blood sugar. Here's what Easy Pha-Max Wheatgrass says on some lifestyle changes designed to combat one of the most dreaded lifestyle diseases of our time—diabetes.
I particularly am concerend of this as we have a daughter who is a Type 1 diabetic, and even me who makes sure to live healthy is at risk. According to the Philippine Center for Diabetes Education Foundation, an estimated of six million Filipinos have diabetes and rapidly increasing in prevalence over the years, making it one of the leading causes of death in the country. While life isn’t sweet with diabetes, understanding how to live healthily with diabetes is a great way to get started. Leave it to Phil-US registered dietitian-nutritionist Cheshire Que when it comes to easy to follow and decidedly doable tips that are applicable for all ages:

#FlavorYourFun with Conagra Brands at the Family Preview of Ralph Wrecks the Internet
What used to be a leisure to me had turned out into one crazy chore with my kids, and not to mention the cost I would be spending when my kids would join me. I have my list, they, however don't but we'd end up buying more of the things they want than buying all the things on my list.
Grocery shopping isn't just about crossing items off a to-do list, anymore, for me, it’s more of knowing what your family loves and spending delicious, memorable moments with them. But of course making sure that they are made according to health standards I adhere to, and what sumptuous dishes I could create with them ingredients.
Good thing there's Conagra Brands.
You too can discover delectable ways to get creative and make memories with Conagra Brands’ roster of quality products the whole family is sure to love. One of North America's leading packaged food companies with beloved brands including Hunt’s tomato products, Libby’s Vienna sausage and corned beef, PAM cooking spray, Peter Pan peanut butter, Act II popcorn, Snack Pack pudding and gels, Reddi Wip whipped cream and Blue Bonnet margarine, Conagra Brands lets you #FlavorYourFun with ease and share it with the people you love whenever you’re together.
Conagra Brands sure had hit the warm spot that thugs the heart of every consumers. At the media preview of Conagra Brands, they had invited celebrities, influencers and media representative to watch the private screen of Ralph Wrecks the Internet, all while indulging everyone with snack creations made from Conagra Brands.
In the media round off held at the movie screening of Ralph Wrecks the Internet last November 24, Saturday at Bonifacio High Street (BHS) Central Square Cinemas, the marketing arm of Conagra Brands showed us how we can take our favorites even further, coz they know specially with moms who are all about getting their family to spend time together in delicious ways.
The event was taken up further with fun- (and food-) loving kids and their doting parents who got to sample more of Conagra Brands’ flavorful and fun treats as the company showcased its flagship products and ambassadors at a special block screening of Ralph Breaks the Internet on .We all sampled unique and yummy movie-themed snacks before the film, got to meet Conagra Brands’ team of mom ambassadors who shared and showed off their inventive twists on their family’s food favorites.
Caught up with Ms. Danica Sotto Pingris. She's an actress, host, and rising YouTube chef. She finds that Conagra products are a worthy addition to her kitchen arsenal. As the mother of two school-age children, she is familiar with the task of preparing baon for them every day. “Since my kids love Libby’s Vienna Sausages, I cook it for their baon all the time! Libby’s Corned Beef makes a great and tasty breakfast too, it’s such a staple in our household.”
She also finds herself reaching for convenient and delicious Snack Packs to make lunchboxes both fun and healthy. “I love how Snack Pack gives me a way to feed my kids fruits. Since you can easily mix in fresh fruits to give the pudding some extra flavor, it’s a perfect baon treat that will give kids the nutrition they need!” she exclaims.
When it comes to preparing snacks and desserts for the family, Peter Pan peanut butter is another one of Danica’s favorites. “I love how versatile it is,” she gushes. “It’s always a hit when I spread it on pancakes, make it a dip for my homemade granola bars, or simply put it on my bananas! You can do many wonderful things with Peter Pan!”
As a model, food enthusiast, and host, Xandra Rocha Araneta’s busy schedule and energetic family keep her on her toes too, which is why she enjoys leisurely weekend brunch at home. “My go-to meal is always Libby’s Corned Beef,” she says. “I add in tons of onions and tomatoes. My husband likes it a little crunchy, so I let the corned beef crisp up in the pan before serving. We enjoy it with fluffy scrambled eggs and garlic fried rice!”
When she’s baking, Xandra loves how convenient it is to have products like PAM Cooking Spray handy. “Just a couple sprays of PAM on the pan, and my baking sessions are hassle-free!” she says. As a health-conscious foodie, she also finds that Conagra strikes the perfect balance between indulgence and nutrition.
She also found that using Blue Bonnet margarine makes for a great alternative to butter that’s still delicious! Hence, I'm taking her word for it, as I haven't tried it with my baking.
With so many kitchen favorites to choose from, you’re sure to love making every moment more delicious thanks to Conagra Brands.
At the event, the guests, including yours truly were given chance to bring home some of the feautured products, and I'm just as excited to prepare good-tasting meals with these.

Enjoying Taiwanese Fare at Fat Fook's Newest Branch in BGC
"Once in a while it really hits people that they don’t have to experience the world in the way they have been told to."
Have you ever heard or read that statement?
This holds true to any travelers. To really know the real deal of certain cultures, you have to be there where it is supposed to be based, like when we talk about Taiwanese cuisine, eating their dishes off the streets gives you a sense of authenticity, when you start learning about tradition one bite at a time. It is so different when you just read it in blogs or magazines, it's all about the sights, sound and taste.

How Our Family Got Korean Visa Despite NOT Having ITR's
Don't you just think airline companies has multi-faceted ways of luring you to buy flight tickets to one of the world destinations you have been dreaming off?
I've been sober from impulsive buying for a decade already, and being a learned frugal mom, I now know where to put our hard earned money.
Insurance investment and T-R-A-V-E-L. Want me to spell it again?
"But traveling isn't cheap," as most would argue but it's one of the best investment you can gift yourself and your family. Education should not be contained inside a four-walled room, kids will learn more through experience, culture and history. History can be tangible and is not just written in textbooks. My four kids would attest to that.

Let LG Keep Your Food for Longer
We’ve been witnessing an eating revolution over the last few years. More and more, modern recipes and cooking techniques have been emphasizing the importance of eating healthy and sourcing fresh ingredients in order to cook well-balanced meals from scratch. Cooking with fresh ingredients instead of processed or preserved food results in meals packed with more nutrients and flavor. Ingredients that don’t come out of a can or plastic packaging are also infinitely healthier.

Tis' the Season to Shop at Healthy Options for "A Christmas Story"
This year's peg for Healthy Options' Christmas Catalogue is all about healthy, dreamy gift packages that will definitely give you a good Christmas story worth sharing and giving.
I wouldn't mind getting a pack or just about anything from Healthy Options, as it is our go-to shop for organic food and non-food items as well as our family's vitamins and food supplements. My diabetic daughter (15 years old buys her chocolates here) and it is the only store where we can buy specialty food supplements for diabetics such as chromium picolinate.
Every gift box was mindfully curated that is filled to the brim with nostalgic treats that are both healthy and wholesome that any receiver would surely cherish.

Raintree and Restaurants Against Hunger
Malnourished children, hungry citizens of war, kids with stunted growth, poor drinking water access, roadblocks to living a decent child life...
These are words that break my heart every time, I read or hear about them. I can't bear it, to see my own kids or I, myself, even in that situation, when it is hope that you only cling on to, even if you don't know if you will have something to eat in the coming days or would those days be worth living.
Sometimes, as much as you'd want to help, things get in the way - being busy with our family, work or you can't just find time to extend the proper help needed, or maybe we just have way many excuses to be good Samaritans.

The Launch of Kain Na! at Ayala Mall, Legazpi
Food for me had always been a comfort and an adventure. Where ever I go, or travel, my list would include what food to eat, where to get the best local food and what to bring home (or to buy as pasalubong) to extend the experience at home. It also is true in how I blog about my exploits, hence my blog name.
Many share the same love, I believe, and I'm happy to work with them and be able to share what Filipino food is about, our food culture is so diverse it likens itself to the number of islands our country has.

You've Got to Love the Mild Cheesy Version of Cheez Whiz
Cheese spreads have always been a staple in most Filipino households, whether it be for a quick bite during breakfast or for fun snack times as baon to school or to play. For many moms, cheese spreads are the best go-to since kids love biting into that goeey, rich texture that the best cheese spreads in the market provide.

La Scala Museum Cafe
Photos by Danielle Joyce Felizardo
With 16 rooms to accommodate their guests at the BnB, La Scala Museum Cafe proved to be more than a breakfast place.
It's a place full of character, memories, and love.
Not too many know about this cafe disguised as a museum or is it the other way around. Either ways, once you enter, you'll be instantly sucked into a world of intriguing yet remarkable past. More than this, what sets this cafe (together with the hotel) from the others is how it was built upon - "the simple joys of life," as how the owner's children would want it to be represented.

Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea, BGC
One thing I missed trying out in Taiwan when we went there last year was to have milk teas!
Duh!
I do know for a fact that the milk teas that first started out here in Manila was inspired from the owners visit to Taiwan. The next thing we know everyday, a new milk tea place would pop up in one corner or a mall or even in our streets.
So when I heard of this specific brand that unbeknownst to us have just landed in Manila. They probably have more than 3 branches to date or more as it became a go to replacement for coffee. When I went to Juifen, Taiwan, I was able to embrace their tea culture and Oolong black tea have been very famous to Taiwanese.
Likewise, in Manila, the love for tea and milk teas have grown to an ecstatic heights, and welcome Yi Fang is never odd.
I love the store front of Yi Fang as if we were actually in Taiwan, add to that the Chinese who were also lined up before us.
Milk tea drinkers like me and my daughter just couldn't help but give in to this trend, so we drove to BGC before going to church and seeing just a couple of people lined up on a Sunday, made me jump up from the car and made way to the streets were Yi Fang is, my husband on the other hand, the driver had to go around to wait for us as parking is far from the area and why would we park for a short time of waiting for our first Yi Fang drinks.
Brown Sugar Pearl Milk Tea without the pearls
However, I found this mix a bit too sweet for me, even if I had it with only half of the sugar. I can't find any signature notes to compare to other milk teas around.
Their pearl and other sinkers get to sold out easily too.
Yi Fang Signature Fruit Tea
What I love about this drink are the fruits that are mixed in the tea. This one is the fruity tea infused with three or more kinds of fruits, I love the passion fruit so I just got to try it.
The teas were quite affordable concerning they claim authenticity. They have a lot of choices and will make sure to try the other variants next time.
When buying prepare to wait for 15 minute upon your order is placed. Bring an umbrella as you'll be qeueing along the pavement and it gets hot or you know just in case it rains. Bring your patience badge too!
