Who is Susan G. Komen?
Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.  In 1982, the promise became Susan G. Komen for the Cure, which is now the world’s largest breast cancer organization and the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer with more than $1.9 billion invested to date.  For more information about Susan G. Cedar Knolls, NJ (September 20, 2011) – In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, Eggland’s Best is showing their support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure® by giving their eggs a pink makeover.

From now until November 15th, Eggland’s Best eggs will turn their distinctive red “EB” stamp into a pink “EB” alongside the signature Susan G. Komen for the Cure Running Ribbon. In addition to sharing more than 300 million breast cancer awareness messages this fall, Eggland’s Best is also pledging a donation of $50,000 to the Susan G. Komen foundation.

“On behalf of my colleagues and the 2.5 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S., we’d like to thank Eggland’s Best for their continued support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever,” said Nancy G. Brinker, founder and CEO of Susan G. Komen. “In the past year, with the help of partners such as Eggland’s Best, we were able to distribute $93 million to local communities, providing more than 600,000 women with free screenings and over 100,000 with treatment assistance.”

A healthy lifestyle is one of the best defenses against breast cancer and studies suggest getting regular physical activity can lower the risk for certain cancers, including breast cancer. According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG), getting approximately 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week (30 minutes on most days of the week) can help maintain a healthy weight, which in turn can reduce the chances of developing breast cancer. In addition to regular physical activity, it is important to eat a well-balanced diet and to choose foods that provide the biggest nutritional bang for your caloric intake.

“Make calories count by choosing nutrient dense foods, such as whole grains, seafood and lean proteins,” says Elizabeth Ward, registered dietitian. “Eggland’s Best eggs are one of my favorite sources of protein because for just 70 calories, they provide two times the amount of Vitamin D and omega-3s and 10 times the amount of Vitamin E , all for less cholesterol and saturated fat when compared to regular eggs.”

“In addition to producing eggs that provide better nutrition, quality and taste, it is equally important to all of us at Eggland’s Best  to give back to our community by getting behind great causes,” said Charles Lanktree, president and CEO of Eggland’s Best. “On behalf of our local producers and farmers, we are proud to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for a second year, and are appreciative to all of our customers that help generate increased awareness for breast cancer research and funding.
