I'm a mom to four and in my forties, but even when I was young, I never saw myself walking on the beach wearing only a two-piece swimsuit. But when I reached my late thirties, I knew I needed that box in my bucket list ticked off.
There are those who say that having a big tummy can tell that a person isn't that healthy. Ok, I'm not one of them (kaya kalma lang!), but there may be truth to it. Flabs actually are fats settled in areas such as the belly, the arm, midsection, the legs and even the chin.
Ever since I was young I had this fatty belly already, more known as "puson" and got worse when I had babies. I was lucky I resorted to breast-feeding my kids which in turn helped some cores tightened up and slimmed down, but sad to say, it left my lower abdomen in worst condition. Loosened skin, stretch marks, and yes even larger "puson." But to add to the insult, I became a food blogger which had me reviewing restaurants and food products. Could I say no? Of course not!
But I never did lose hope for my body and my health as well, more than donning a nice tight dress or a swimsuit without feeling conscious. I need to feel better about myself and I want my husband to see me as gorgeous as I can be (chos!)
In that sense, I know I needed to invest on my looks. But there are several factors in my life right now that says otherwise and tells me it may not be possible. Time. Money. Capability.
Thankfully, I met this beautiful lady who manages a place where you can be beautified in one place, and where my tummy issues can be answered, meet Bianca Festejo. She owns a Franchise of Mary Pauline Salon, The Beauty Lounge. Last November 14, her second branch had just been launched. It was Joy Mendiola who introduced me to her and to The Beauty Lounge. Bianca's first branch was located at Starmall, Las Pinas. The second branch, which I visited last November 10 was at Petron Station at C5.
While the others had their hairs done, I opted to try their RF service.
What exactly is RF Body Contouring?
It is a non-invasive body-contouring treatment powered by radiofrequency (RF). Below is a list of what it does:
- Reduces skin laxity (looseness) to improve the appearance of excess or sagging skin. Common treatment zones include the abdomen, thighs, arms, and jowls.
- For sculpting, tightening, or toning the skin
- Increases cellular metabolism, lymphatic drainage, and circulation
- Streamline body contours
- Smoothens and firms the texture of the skin
- Boost collagen production
- Decrease the circumference and volume of the targeted treatment zones
- Minimize the appearance of cellulite (unsightly skin dimpling)
- Reduce stubborn fat pockets
I was a bit hesitant at first, but upon hearing stories from Joy Mendiola of how she would undergo through it at times without fuss, I became open to the idea. Another alternative to this procedure is he Mesotherapy which the owner and the in-house doctor suggested for me too.
If you are ready, there are things you need to understand first before going through it.
- Both men and women can undergo this
- Make sure your doctor approves of this if you have certain health conditions.
- For women, make sure you don't have a menstruation when you schedule the service
- This is just basically a test of your pain levels and the heat level your body can take.
- You can not have food at least 2 hours before and after the treatment
- Slight pain and skin redness may occur on the area after the treatment

The procedure is done in a separate room. I love that The Beauty Lounge have different rooms to accommodate services like this, which is very private and apart from the salon space. You don't need to take your clothes, the staff will just ask you to expose just the area where you needed treatment. You will be asked to lie comfortably. If it's your first time, don't be shy to ask the staff about the procedure.
Once you are on the bed, you will be handed a button, that's connected to the RF machine. This is to be pressed whenever you will feel any discomfort or pain. A lubricant (glycerine) will be applied of the area of your body and a tool (like a massage tool) will be used in some massaging technique.
What really happens is that with deep, controlled heating of the fatty layers under the skin, the effects of tissue tightening and increased blood circulation mean that fatty deposits are drained through the lymphatic system, this the reduces the appearance of cellulite. Based on current RF technologies, most people should see at least a mild improvement in their skin tone, with a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite and possible inch loss, with minimal risks and downtime.
The whole process took about less than an hour, or more, depends on your size and circumstance. The main concentration was at the midsection for 30 minutes, with 7 minutes each on both sides done while lying down your sides.
Above is my photo before the procedure. Excuse my shameless picture.
While below is my photo after the procedure.
I didn't feel any pain at all, it was basically like being massaged but with heat applied on the apparatus. I almost fell asleep as it was quite relaxing. Notice the pinkish tummy.
Aside from the RF, I also had my stretch marks treated. It was like a whitening and tightening procedure, which somehow evens out the color of your skin around the tummy. Notice how my skin evened out?

Will update you on how everything went after my last RF.
