20 Years of Serving the Best Seafood by MIDA Food

When selecting either fresh or frozen seafood, there are several things to consider and one of it is to always look for the label.

For instance, some refrigerated seafood may have time/temperature indicators on their packaging, which show if the product has been stored at the proper temperature.  Always check the indicators when they are present and only buy the seafood if the indicator shows that the product is safe to eat.

My father taught me several points too on making sure I'm getting fresh fish or seafood in the market.

The same principle that founded MIDA Food, even though they did asserted that they started off without a business plan.  But now, it may be a surprise to many that they are now 20 years and coming still strives to move strongly.  With that they celebrated their 20th anniversary as a leader in the Philippine seafood industry in 2017.

Today, the company offers the largest seafood selection in the Philippines in collaboration with its sister company, Mida Trade Ventures. The company also offers a full line of retail seafood specialty items under their brand, Pacific Bay.

The celebration was dubbed as Feast of the Pacific where they featured top chefs in the country to highlight their seafood products with great-tasting dishes shared to all the event attendees.

Enrique Valles, Mida Food’s CEO, notes, “For lack of a distributor in the Philippines, Mida Food Distributors was created to cater to a growing local demand.” From an array of tuna products, Mida Food’s business soon expanded to offering premium seafood items, including Chilean Seabass and salmon, to high-end hotels and other five-star establishments. Today, Mida Food caters to a varied list of clients, from premium fine-dining restaurants, to casual grilleries and fast food chains.

From tuna products, the company has expanded their lines to include varieties of crab (including softshell crab, King Crab, and snow crab), lobster, shrimp, squid, octopus, bacalao, halibut, dory, cod, salmon, tuna, scallops, mollusks, and more.

An Industry Partner

Another accomplishment of MIDA Food during its 20-year history with the company was its influence the shrimp aquaculture industry. “As volumes grew, we started legislating for the ban on vannamei shrimp (or suahe, as it’s called locally) to be lifted,” Valles notes, as the company knew that the lifting of the ban on importation and culture of the shrimp would introduce further growth. “We won this case in the end.”

The growth of MIDA Food can also be attributed to its stance of being a close collaborative partner of its clients. Its services include menu development, customization of products, as well as training on food safety and other matters. “Through research & development, as well as client intimacy, we’ve gained a reputation in the market as a seafood expert.”

The Pacific Bay Retail Brand

Mida Food Distributors has also penetrated the retail market through its brand, Pacific Bay. The line offers freshly-packed seafood items, specifically designed for the home cook in mind. Products include peeled & deveined shrimp, tuna belly, tuna steaks, scallop meat, salmon steaks, whole clams, crabstick, and cream dory fillet, as well as Atlantic cod portions, bacalao loins, Chilean seabass, softshell crab, Gindara steaks and halibut fillet and steaks. The Pacific Bay brand is available at any leading supermarket nationwide.

Celebrating the Future of Mida Food Distributors

With its accomplishments, its business strategies, its close collaboration with clients, and its strategic stance of looking out for the latest trends in the industry, Mida Food Distributors certainly looks forward to the coming years. “With a strong team, a close relationship with our clients, and our strategy for growth, I look forward to the future of Mida Food,” says Valles.
