Flavors of the Philippines: the delectable run-up to Madrid Fusion Manila 2017

This is an OMG! moment for foodies and gourmands alike who are anticipating this year's Madrid Fusion Manila (MFM), it's almost a week before the big day as the Department of Tourism (DOT) continues to take the whole nation on a culinary journey like no other via the Flavors of the Philippines.

Indeed the said food fest has come a long way since it was launched in April 2015, just as Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo said. It had generated a loyal following among Filipino families, gourmets and gourmands alike. “Flavors of the Philippines’ landmark success has turned it into culinary tradition for many people, who now eagerly await its annual edition since year one.”

According to DOT Director Verna Buensuceso, the DOT started it at a time when Filipino food was still “the best kept secret.” So much so, nobody knew much about what Filipino food is all about. But that was before, as today she said, Filipino food is one of the biggest trends.

Speaking to members of the media at the Flavors of the Philippines launch held recently in S Maison Mall, SM MOA Complex, Pasay City, she said the festival has been expanded this year to include business-to-business meetings with local tour operators that specialize on culinary tours.

Flavors of the Philippines aims to present the Philippines to all the food lovers in the world as a hub for all different flavor profiles even those from foreign origins while establishing the country as center of culinary excellence in Asia.

A gastronomy festival launched by the DOT and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) as a prelude to the much anticipated Madrid Fusion Manila (MFM) 2017, the month-long Flavors of the Philippines features various activities ranging from local markets to featured food menus in hundreds of venues from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

MFM is slated on 1-8 April 2017 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, featuring an International Gastronomy Congress and the Fusion Manila International Gastronomy Expo.
