Desiderata Lounge: When Art Deco Interior and Sublime Menu Were Married

When I got an invite from EON Group for a Scotch Whisky appreciation, I apprehended at first.  But what caught my interest on attending was the venue were it was held.

Desiderata...

A song my teacher used to have us listen in high school. And only now have I realized it did made an impact to my personality.  The words of the poem have ingrained in me when I was still young and till now have been my foundational virtue.  Glad I heard that song and to have traced it back now.

Those bygone years...

But this article ain't about how my character was rooted, it was about this lounge that I just had discovered after attending the #LoveScotch event at Desiderata.  Glad I responded to the call.

Desiderata replaced the defunct Chef's Table.  I had to admit I became sad coming to the place as I remember the glorious years of Chef Bruce Lim here together with his bald crew whipping up gourmet plate goodness.

This time around, a different helm of gourmands had been taking over and I had to say, they are more than cocktails and spirits.

At first look, it had that sense of intimidating character, as if you have to be well-dressed to blend in the ambiance, thus let me correct that, you actually don't have to be.

What really had me at first was their teal gray walls and the huge circular metallic chandelier.  Well I have this thing with walls you know and I find "wainscoted" walls alluring.  Frankly, though I'm not a fan of Art Deco design, Desiderata made sure if the essential details and making every bit of it tasteful even for modern lifestyle living.

Even their sconce lighting is unique.

When you need a relaxing place, an after-work place, this is the one.  Tucked in behind the busy street of Serendra, Infinity Tower, will definitely entice you, it's like a secret place were you can savor good food and beverage without the dizzying crowd.

Beyond the regular commercial wines are its well-stocked bars lined in oak, with a well-curated liquor selection from the world's finest. Like their menu, their cocktails continue to evolve to with the in-house mixologist continues to spruce up their bar menu.

They would recommend a couple from the granite-fitted bar, such as the “Granada,” a local rum-based cocktail finished with sweet vermouth and fresh orange juice, spiked with Don Papa.

I was able to check their menu and whew! my credit card might go crying after a month.  But it doesn't matter, when I got to try some samples of their menu for the Scotch pairing, I told myself, I gotta go back and see how it looks like plated for a sole order.  You know, something worth-saving up for.

If I got you excited already, might I suggest you get Tuna Tataki.  It's a fresh tuna (light-caught) sheathed with smoked sake, dashi flavored quinoa tapenade and a hint of salted egg sauce somewhere there.

You might want to try their Kurobuta, though expensive, I know it's going to be something.  Kurobuta black pork in Spanish Adobo.

Another dish they were also proud of was the Rossini Qua. It's a Beijing-grilled buns filled with wagyu entrata and a big slab of foie gras seared to perfection.

When I checked the menu, I was intrigued by Desiderata's Crepe Inutak, part of their dessert listing.  It's a crepe dessert finished with rum flambé, candied jackfruit, home-baked cookie crumble and a thrilling helping of pistachio ice cream.

But what I was able to try was a cute helping of Pears Brochette.  A luscious heap of poached pears in tempranillo red wine. It's then layered with caramelized walnut crumble, gorgonzola cheese and capped beautifully with chantilly cream.

Their coffee is a local brew but enticing nonetheless.  Another surprise came when I saw a sugar cube laid beside my cup.  Hmmm...more recollection from the Art Deco season...

  5. On the off chance that you are not particularly searching for an interior design work but rather would rather begin your own particular Interior Design organization, you are as yet going to require a legitimate instruction in Interior Design. canvas prints for kitchen
