What could more fulfilling for a professional than doing something worthwhile with one's skills and ultimately to live for others. One of those people is plastic surgeon Dr. Laurence Loh who found his
calling to help out children with facial deformities by supporting Operation
Smile. Operation Smile is an international non-profit organization that aims to heal children’s
smile by providing safe, effective reconstructive surgery for children born
with facial deformities.
Dr. Laurence Loh made a
name for himself as a successful and trusted surgeon in the fields of aesthetic
and plastic surgery. A medical professional with a heart of gold, he’s putting
his skills into good use as he helps put back the smile and confidence in the
lives of children afflicted with cleft palate, cleft lip and other facial
deformities.
At a press conference held a week ago at Hong Kong Roast in Jupiter St., Makati, he Dr. Loh was introduced by Mr. Roberto Manzano, President of Operation Smile Philippines, as a co-advocate for a long time and attested to what Dr. Loh is so capable of and gave out all the things that Dr. Loh had worked for to help their mission in bringing "one smile at a time" to kids with cleft palate who aren't so fortunate enough to have their lips reconstructed with their own money.
The Operation Smile
beneficiaries will be truly in good hands as Loh is one of the few accredited
plastic surgeons here in the Philippines and is currently a member of the
prestigious Philippine Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic
Surgeons, Inc. (PAPRAS), a national association of plastic surgeons, where he
is currently serving as national secretary. A graduate of UP College of
Medicine with a fellowship in craniofacial and microvascular surgery at Eastern
Virginia Medical School-Norfolk, he has operated in more than 200 cleft lip and
palate missions both locally and internationally.
His wealth of experience
includes being chief of Plastic Surgery section of Jose Reyes Medical Center as
well as being assistant chief of the Plastic Surgery department of the highly
regarded medical institution of St. Luke’s Medical Center. He was also a
training officer in plastic surgery at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and a board
examiner at Philippine Board of Plastic Surgery. His international affiliations
include memberships in the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons
and Oriental Society of Plastic Surgeons.
As an expert in the
field, he has conducted various lectures in plastic and reconstructive surgery
in both local and international conferences. Highly esteemed by his colleagues,
Dr. Loh remains a doctor with a heart for volunteerism. Dr. Loh donates his time and effort as he
performs surgeries on children in medical missions conducted by Operation
Smile.
“Life is just more
meaningful when God-given abilities and the skills you’ve developed are put
into good use. I have a particular sense of advocacy for the kids of Operation
Smile because it only takes over 20 minutes to perform a surgery that would
change their lives. I intend to give back,” Dr. Loh shares.
Dr. Loh is currently
shuttling between his advocacy, medical duties and private practice at his
newly-opened Lips Institute of Plastic Surgery (LIPS) clinic in Quezon City. LIPS is a medical suite that offers top of the line surgical and aesthetic services that would not only put smile on more faces but uplift self-esteem and a better perspective of one self. Imagine going to a medical building with hotel like amenities while undergoing physical improvement. Having operated and reconstructed a lot of famous names in the movie industry would serve as another testimony to his profession.
