On Becoming The Big Bad Wolf

 "What big hands you have!"
In most retellings, this colloquy eventually culminates with Little Red Riding Hood saying,
"My, what big teeth you have!" to which the wolf replies, "The better to eat you with"
Okay, don't be confused, I'm not going to review a book or re-tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood or insinuate the character of the ravenous Big Bad Wolf who ate the girl's grandmother.
Rather let me tell you how I have bent  the folktale in a degustative way.
It all started with the resto bar's name.   I wonder  why it was named as such.   It may sound ludicrous to many but it see it as interesting as their menu.
Fresh Tuna Wraps w/ Wasabi Mayo is basically Sushi wrapped in lettuce.  Eating raw fish  is a very healthy though some may find it unworthy (of course not for Japanese), but I must advise you that it is an acquired taste to those who do not eat much Asian food.

This is like eating sushi and salad all at the same time.   Of course,  tastes slightly fishy, but when made correctly it should melt in your mouth.  Artistically defined with sliced nori scattered scarcely around and wasabi mayo checkered on the plate.   You would want to sweep out the dressing on the plate though.
My Pink Lemonade.  A refreshing alternative for a heavy coffee drinker.
Santol Smoked Pork Belly in Honey-Raspberry Sauce
If I am making  you salivate right now about the thought of the uber sour fruit, hold your horses!   Have you had any dish mixed with some kind of fruit jam or jelly?  Or a preserved fruit for that matter?   I've had a few, but never santol.   Funny that when I "googled" (yes that's the term when you use google to search for resources for a word, which my kids taught me) about the fruit, where I also had checked an English name for it, Wikipedia don't have it, so maybe it is known as bare santol.   But I checked and checked till I got the name wild mangoosteen.
Digging right in the rice dish with pork loin cutlets made me realize that jams such as Raspberry can add  just the kick without being too much sweet to the dish.  The santol and the rapberry didn't actually overpower the dish but instead giving it the subtle redolence without the tangy expectation.   Love, love it!
Well that was all we had for that time, but we will definitely be coming back.  I actually knew about this from a certain group buying deal, which tickled my curiosity so I bought one.  And what do you know, it didn't fail us.   We've been passing by this building at the corner of McKinley at The Fort not knowing that behind Ristras and Malcolm's is  resto bar waiting to be discovered.

The place looked liked a photo from a magazine came alive.  Typical of any New Yorker transformed loft apartment, where concrete walls painted white, farmhouse tables are rustic with  country décor items that can accommodate a variety of chair types mixed on every table.
There are lots of comfy nooks to choose for whatever company needs.   No need to dress up nicely to enjoy an ala fine dining food experience.   You can enjoy a sumptuous steak dinner at a couch on a country table or outside for an alfresco dining.  The place  is tucked away from the public so this is great for an intimate party for like a bachelor's party or even a bridal shower.   There are many seating placements and drinks are just a few steps away.  Edgy yet super clean and the aroma of the food being prepared just whiffs off the cabby hole on the side.

If you're a bit OC, you may find it odd seeing odd stuff placed at certain points around the pad, but that's common of  a typical NY  suburban apartment.
Did I also tell you about how good their coffee is.  Actually they have a good array of coffee blends from across the countries.
So I came in the resto like Little Red Riding hood (though not having the red hooded jacket or somewhat) inquisitive of what "Granny" will be serving me.   Instead  the Big Bad Wolf was there.   But ironically,  the villainous character didn't tricked me into being the victim but it turned out that I became the Big  "but not the Bad" Wolf who ravenously smothered  what Granny had prepared.  Hahaha.  The End.
