ASEAN Tourism Forum 2016


The Department of Tourism (DOT) expects the ongoing promotion of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) as a single tourism destination to push economic growth in the region on many fronts.


DOT Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez Jr. says the growth will soon be felt in the various industry sectors as soon as the region starts to reap huge dividends rm attracting global attention to its rich and diverse resources, which the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2016 promotes as one complete package.


The year started out really well with ATF 2016 as the country opened its doors last January 18 to 22, to thousands of tourism players from 64 nations all over the world, including around a hundred members of the foreign media from 35 countries, all have witnessed the ASEAN in a new light, according to the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB), the marketing arm of DOT.

This event is an integration between tourism industry sectors of the 10 member nations of the ASEAN, such as the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos PDS, Malaysia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.

ATF is an annual event hosted by a certain ASEAN country, and this year the Philippines played host to ATF 2016 which happened to mark its 35th anniversary of the event since its inauguration in Malaysia in 1981.

One of the highlights of the event is TRAVEL EXCHANGE (TRAVEX), a series of daylong, one-on-one, business-to-business meetings between foreign buyers  and ASEAN sellers of tourism products and services.





ATF TRAVEX is the longest-running annual ASEAN leisure travel trade event, showcasing the largest contingent of ASEAN sellers.  The 3-da travel trade-only exhibition and business meetings.

With the theme- ASEAN: One Community for Sustainability, ATF organizers embodied unity in diversity, which was a colorful and vibrant tropical 10-in-one paradise like no other.  Its great outdoors and rich culture unique to each country, bands the 10-member nations as a one regional destination in tourism.

A total of 1000 exhibitors. 457 buyers and 175 media, from all over the world. have gathered.  With exhibitors ranging from industries such as airlines, auto rental/coach operator, destination marketing and resort, online bedbank, golf courses, online booking engine, serviced residences, convention/exhibition organizer, Convention/exhibition venues, cruise lines/ferry services, hotel/resort, inbound tour operator, destination management company, National Tourist Organization, State Tourism board, technology companies and theme park/tourist attraction.

The buyers came from 64 countries with Germany, India and USA as the highest rated.  Adventure travels agency, corporate company with incentive programmes were just among them.
