Unique, IG-worthy Coffee Shops Near Pasay City

Someone once said, "Coffee is a way of stealing time that should by rights belong to your old self."

My husband asked me, in full support of what I do for living (blogging) and maybe start me off on the right track with vlogging, "what else do you need, since I've bought you all the things that can help you improve in your vlogging?"  I answered "TIME!" (with a sarcastic smile).

He replied with a laugh, not to insult me, what I need according to him could not be bought haha or is unnegotiable, as we have 2 adults, 2 almost adults and a toddler.  I guess, the only thing that could fuel me to go on and can compromise my need for extra time is coffee!

Hence, whenever we get to go out for errands, grocery runs and whatnot, I try to ask my husband if we could visit a coffee shop nearby, and Metro Manila never runs out of interesting cafe's to cater to my coffee whims.

It's great to see new cafes popping up despite the hardships most businesses are undertaking.  It keeps coffee connoisseurs happy while keeping the business community up and running.

Check out our YouTube vlog on the list of K-drama inspired cafes in Pampanga.

To add to the active coffee community, I have collated several unique coffee shops around the metro for you to also visit.

You get to enjoy both the coffee and the ambiance!

1.  74 Apartment Cafe

The best cafe in my neighborhood, should I say.  It's like a breath of fresh air to us Pasayeno's, like having our own little Siargao or Elyu spirit.  It's near to the clinic where I would bring my kids to and you'll never be disappointed with their selection!  At first, I could hardly choose as they went all in, from coffee mixes, hot and cold, to milk teas and specialty tea beverages! You'll want to stay for more!
My suggestion would be their Macadamia Latte.  I also love their pastry selections such as the orange muffins and chocolate chip cookies and make sure to have their crowd fave croissant to go with your drinks.

It is where jeepneys (Malibay to Mall of Asia) pass by and you'd hardly miss it as it's the only white shop along that street.

Address: 74 Clemente Jose, Pasay City

2.  Papa Kape

It's one of those hole-in-a-wall type of nooks where you'd never expect an oasis to be.  In a busy residential area of Palanan, Makati arose a coffee and laundry shop.  Aside from the the brand name having a ring to it, Papa Kape may be your typical go-to coffee especially for the local coffee enthusiasts.  Perfect for the plantita/plantito's, bikers and just those needed a breakthrough from the hustle and bustle.

Been meaning to come here since I knew about this "still secret coffee shop in Palanan" when I saw a churchmate trying it out, as it was a walk away from their church in Filmore.   I love how home-owners' open up their home, garage, gardens to cater to what the community needs, may it be a sanctuary or a cup of coffee.

Tried their Cappuccino and Hazelnut Latte with Onion Bread and Mangga at Suman to-go, but will come and stay longer next time to try their one-of-a-kind drinks,  Brazo Latte and Kape Gingerccino.

Address:  5641 Ampere Street, Palanan 1235 Makati

3. Cafe 6059

Like the first cafe on the list, they got their name from their address, hence it's easier to find in Google and waze, but in truth, the exact place is a bit hard to navigate to and the street one way and narrow and parking can also be a hard.

However, you'll get to try the best Spanish latte and mocha latte in Brgy. Olympia, Makati.

It's a hip place for the young ones who is into arts, graffiti and spoken word poetry.

Address: 6059 San Rafael St. Brgy. Olympia Makati City

4. M Studio and Cafe

M Studio can easily be associated to Magallanes, but I have really no idea what M means, but I know that their food are gourmand-approved and and the other part of the cafe is indeed a studio, a dance studio,  and also a place to hold photo sessions.

Next to Malibay and The Resorts Wold Manila, Paseo de Magallanes is our next food spot in cases when we need to have food right away.

M Studio Cafe has that outdoor relaxing vibe, with their dining area perched at the terrace, where you can also see your food being prepared.  To top that, they have a wide array of beverages and coffee mixes, with their strong coffee.

Address: 3rd Floor Oakridge Plaza Paseo De Magallanes

5.  Kapetolyo by SGD Coffee

Ever since Mayor Isko Moreno flexed about the beautification (improvements) in Manila, especially within the vicinity of Manila City Hall, I had my eyes on this cafe sitting next to the Sisa Monument.  It used to be this dirty place where street dwellers would frequent and no one have imagined it's going to be what it is now, a place in the midst of the breathing grounds of Manila, surrounded by trees and historic monuments, and now where you can savor local brews and good food.

Many bikers have been starting their days here and many others have had special gatherings here which took many to wait until the pandemic loosened up.

I love their Flat White, and my husband loved their cappuccino, however, I wished they could have widen their coffee selection.

Address:  Cecilia Muñoz Drive cor. Antonio Villegas St, Ermita 1000 Manila, Philippines

6.  Wildheart Flower Shop + Cafe

Last December, 2021, I visited my Aunt in Las Pinas, it was also my late mother's bday so I figured it's the best time for me to visit this dried flowers shop which happens to have a coffee nook inside!

That's hitting two birds in one stone right?  I've been buying my mama dried flowers online and it's not that affordable, but more reasonable than buying fresh ones every week.  So, I was like a child in a candy store, and all those dried plants and flowers are eye candy.  But, so happy to know that they sell it so affordably, way cheaper than the ones I get online, with a little fee for the arrangement.

It was such a blessing to visit them with my husband and toddler and we love their Spanish Latte too!

Address:  137 Carnival Park Street, BF Resort Dr, Village, Las Piñas, Metro Manila

Fool-proof Brunch And Brew Pairings at Caffe Freddo

Another specialty coffee and all-day brunch place has popped up at Bonifacio Highstreet and it's no doubt gaining bragging rights from its patrons.

This new cafe features a modern minimalist look making it cozy and Instagramable. Its off-white distressed brick walls, ample seating good for 50 people, and columns with hand-painted coffee plants in vibrant hues of green and red makes Caffe Freddo cozy enough for group meet-ups and family dining.

Poison

I've promised myself to be good to my self, to live a healthy lifestyle, to give up on stressful factors of life and to surrender all to my God.

But...

I still succumb to poison.

Wait...

Our Top Picks for Great Coffee Shop Concepts in Manila

I can't forget how this blog started.

Together with sharing simple home-cooked dishes and my love for baking, are our coffee shop dates. From my husband's promise of trying out every food establishments in Mall of Asia, so I can blog about them, to scouting Manila's off beaten paths just to check out certain cafes, that's how I came about.  But guess what, his promises didn't really materialized as I've expected it to be.

Boulangerie 22, Magallanes Branch

After processing my siblings Italian citizenship documents at TIA, along Pasong Tamo, Ext., It's weird that their address says Magallanes, though I know Magallanes to be the village which was on the other side of SLEX.  I searched for a coffee place nearby through Zomato.

Boulangerie 22 came up which was just 5 minutes away of drive.  I took the jeepney towards Fort Bonifacio and got there in no time.  It was already passed 4 pm, the cafe seems gloomy since no one was there except for the two staff behind the counter.

Bag of Beans

My summer exhaustion turned to rational mania.   I have gotten as far as Tagaytay, just to follow my irresistible quest for an exquisite coffee experience.   From Calamba,  crossing Silang, all the way to the highlands of Tagaytay.

Going to Batangas, just along Aguinaldo Highway, past Mendez crossing is a city hide-away and a haven to coffee lovers and food writers like me.   Bag of Beans dishes up not only good tasting coffee but also pies and other specialties.   The aroma of coffee whiffed up with the cool breeze of Tagaytay is just the remedy for a stressed out woman like me.

Noriter Cafe: The Playground of the Creatives

Don't you just love taking a break from the crazy world with a cup of coffee while lounging off somewhere, where your thoughts run freely and concerns are clouded with dainty pieces adorning every nook and cranny.  There is a place that fits that dreamy afternoon.   Located near where I had the best and worst stage of my education life.
Just so you know, I just had posted a review on a Korean fusion restaurant which is also near the university, where I took a Bachelor's degree in Education with two majors, in Education and Mathematics.  Does that sound like me?  Hhhmmm...you guess!

Days before we tried Chef's Noodle at the University Mall, my daughter and I toured our way to Taft after getting her report card.  She did well somehow with her studies, so to reward her, I took her to Noriter Cafe.  We knew about this place years already, just that we couldn't take time to visit it.   So when she asked me if we can eat snack before we go home, I never hesitated to invite her at Noriter.

Hhmmm...what do you think, was she delighted?

The entrance
the guard actually sits on the white chair, good thing he went away in time for me  to take a shot of this wall.

Must-try Coffee Places

Mocha Overload at Bo's Coffee
"Over second and third cups flow matters of high finance, high state, common gossip and low comedy.  [Coffee] is a social binder, a warmer of tongues, a soberer of minds, a stimulant of wit, a foiler of sleep if you want it so.  From roadside mugs to the classic demi-tasse, it is the perfect democrat."  ~Author Unknown
In the earlier part of my blogging, we started trying out new and "not that famous" coffee shops.  Never did I think that my husband's and my coffee habituation would lead us to understand coffee drinkers even more, unwrapping more and more information on coffee.
Here are the places we got a bit intoxicated with caffeine and of course have had the  chance to also try out some interesting stuffs on the menu.

Bag of Beans
Sam Brew

18 Days Roasters, where I got the most exquisite blend, Alamid Coffee

Kitsch Cafe

Never have we thought, that we never have to get our passports stamped to get a feel of what coffee other countries are soaking up with.   From a French-inspired cafe, American, Italian to Singaporean.   It may not be about just the coffee, may be about the aura or the whole atmospheric state of these coffee stations or just the company of friends and loved ones.
There are a lot more places, scenic, artistic, eclectic or whatnot.   It only takes one day at a time to discover them...Till then!

At Paris Delice: Enjoying the Night Before my Hubby's Birthday

November 21, 2010, a few hours before my husband, Bhogs turns 39.
At the wee hour of that day, I have been still thinking what to give Bhogs for his birthday, we would usually stay late till midnight to await the turning of each day for that special day and greet the celebrant a smoochy  Happy Birthday, so it was part of the plan to bring him to a coffee shop and get us cups of coffee for that caffeine effect.
And what a perfect idea to bring him or have him bring me to a bazaar  (ahahah).   Good enough my best friend Tricia invited me to visit her booth at Esprit de Noel, at A-Venue Events Hall in Makati Ave.
Part of my life's joy is going to bazaars and "tiangge," and of course trying out foodie concoctions from exhibitors.    Due to our very unorganized life, we went there at about 8 in the evening and these are just about the attractions we found....

The event is coming to an end and I still haven't found anything of his interest, an idea is to go a restaurant, or better yet go back to the first one, coffee shop... and more chit-chat...till caffeine kicks in.
We left the vehicle parked there and strolled along Makati Avenue, seeing the Aberdeen court brought up a lot of topics for our reminisence.  Honestly, I was looking for Starbucks or Gloria Jeans, but we didn't find any so we reached Neptune St.  There was an intriguing Indian or Arabic cuisine at the second floor of a certain buliding that we were debating if we'd try it or not.
No, we want coffee!            We are really coffee-holics!
Fascinatingly, there was a dandyish coffee bar tucked in at the corner of Juno St. and Makati Ave.
It is a fast food retaurant alright but in a modern French touch.   So we got coffee, cappuccino for two, and had a hard time picking a sandwich.   I was gonna have Napolean, dying to taste Rosette de Lyon, though I am not sure if it's salami or sausage.  Also, they have French Pastries, which I missed from Le Couer de France, I will definitely try next time.      They recommended Hot Crousti.   Sounds new to us, so we got one and shared it.

Hot Crousti, sausage on French Baguette topped with Emmental Cheese

According to Mr. Carlos Barrica, they've just opened early November.   The chef is not at all French, but a Filipino who have stayed some time in France, I guess for immersion into French recipes and dining customs of that sort.   As pastry and dessert maker myself and a coffee lover, I'd give a very good first impression! As they say, "first impressions last." Need to mention, the people behind the business are very welcoming and gracious, I'd say the budding business will go a long, long way and cupful of coffees served!  Sante'!
To sum up, the experience was well, worth it, we did buy something for our kids, but none for the celebrant.   We had our coffee and a bit of French indulgence but the night didn't end there...now looking forward to a day of fun and excitement at Star City!
