Felt health-conscious with my Appertivo (appetizer), salad, cold cuts, cheese slices and hors d'oeuvres, made up a color pallete of a plate at the Kamia Rooms for the Seagate Go Flex event.

The Dessert.........wahhh.....

Seagate Technology, the world leader in hard disk drives and storage solutions, has  introduced  to the Philippine market its newest and most innovative mobile wireless solution to date, from the FreeAgent GoFlex storage family, the GoFlex Satellite.
I loved the buffet!  Why didn't I take pictures of the entree... Dang!...
Teh Ban Seng,  Senior VP/Managing Director Sales and Marketing of Seagate Asia Pacific and Japan, introduced the latest innovation in data/ file storage.  More on that at my other blog.  However I still have yet to post the link on that event and techie matters will define the post.

Bo's Coffee for Night Owls at Bohol

After bumming along the beach of Panglao Island, we took time to ride the tricycle and look for a decent cafe to get coffee.   It was only 8 in the evening and the town seems sleepy already, though a few restaurants outside and a few meters away from Bohol Tropics.   Kids waited at our villa, we went and  excused ourselves from their tv viewing, to get snacks specifically for our Dana who we taught might get "hypo."

What I love about the city is the people, for their courteousness, chivalry and generosity.  Their "Ija-Ija" or Bol-anon language doesn't deviate their values from their lifestyle.

We were told this won the Best Pasalubong from the 2000 competition
We decided to walk for a kilometer or less, to look for a grocer or store, we found a 24-hour grocer who sells "pasalubong" and Bohol's native delicacies, but to my dismay no coffee.   It started to drizzle but we took heart to look for a coffee shop.  A few meters more and we were at the Sun Avenue Pension.  Earlier I was able to eye on  coffee nook, so I was quite exuberant that I could have  coffee shop review from this town.  But alas, the coffee shop was closed.

Sheets of soft drizzle form the sky started pouring but we decided to brave it, but then we took tricycle instead asked the driver to take us somewhere there is an open coffee shop, guess where he took us...

At the town proper of Tagbilaran is where Dunkin Donuts Cafe and Bo's Coffee emerged.  On this distressed table our beloved coffee concoctions sat.  Bhogs thought I'll be having the usual hot cup, but this time I was in the mood for a new splash.   He had Latte Cappuccino and  mine was Coffee Jelly Froccino.

This was truly a sweet ending to a day that was eventful yet a bit frustrating.   Imagine, we went to Bohol to have my daughter Danielle get early morning medication for asthma and flu.  Served  as a lesson for travellers with kids, or wthout, bring first-aid kits for cuts, headaches, allergies, etc.   But pharmacies and clinics are around and people are always ready to give a hand.

While enjoying our coffee we checked out their weekly gazette, the Bohol  Chronicle, and read that Bohol has lots to offer.   Read also about Kriztea Cafe,  newly opened tea and coffee shop where they feature organic and Bohol's pride in healthy juice and tea mixes.

Gone are the massive stone-walls that provided protection during the era of pirates and insurrectos, walls that witnessed the blood and tears of our ancestors who were subjected to forced labor! But… the new walls brought in more light & fresher air, and paved the way for additional wings to accommodate a fast-growing congregation. The number of parishioners in early times is a far cry from the burgeoning populace of the present.

The Cathedral of Saint Joseph the Worker, the main seat of the Catholic faith in Bohol, sprawls on a wide area facing Carlos P. Garcia Avenue, the principal street of Tagbilaran City. Located in the central part of the city, the church has a picturesque setting. In front of it is the City plaza, famed for its flocks of doves and a haven for those who yearn to be alone to meditate, or to rest and relax, or to enjoy a tete-a-tete.

Across the street from the plaza looms the massive, imposing provincial capitol, a stone-built edifice that has been the seat of Bohol’s civil government since Spanish times. At the back of the Cathedral, built on a promontory is a 3-storey rectory, a modern initiative of parish priest Msgr. Cirilo Darunday, sitting astride the old convento which has long been converted into a Palacio de Obispado. Both old and new convents stand on a cliff overlooking Tagbilaran’s scenic bay, where across a shallow sea of about a mile wide, can be seen nestled beneath the hills of the town of Dauis, the beautiful , famed church of Our Lady of the Assumption, whose church bells can be heard across the sea on quiet days.

Adjacent and right across the plaza is the Spanish-styled building of the Municipality of Tagbilaran.

Bohol's Cafe Atanacio

Usually, when I return from a trip, or even on an event, I can’t wait to write about it, but this time, I somehow seem to be terribly behind…..Our Bohol trip was so awe-inspiring, and I won't allow for this to take  a month  to complete our Bohol travelogues…
Don't get confused,  you're on food blog alright, in fact my travelogue starts at a hotel's cafe.  After the brouhaha with Cebu Pacific's flight issues, we made sure that though our visit to my father's homeland though short, it had to be worth all the effort,  as it always was with our past vacations here.
Every time I come here there is always something new, to explore, to delve in to and to taste.  We Filipinos could never get used to our own cuisine.   Specially if we deliberately grew up with it.   After  grueling flight early in the morning, I know we are in for a treat.   My parents came Friday from Milan, Italy, Saturday was our flight to Bohol which got cancelled, Sunday was my aunt's wedding and we however made it just in time for the preparations for the said wedding.  The good thing was that the ceremony at the Antiquera church was at 2 pm we came by 10 at Bohol Tropics Hotel in  Tagbilaran.     Tired, hungry yet excited I had my two girls try on their gowns, for they were flower girls.   And guess what my Dana's gown was way too big for her and my Danica's was  bit skin-tight.  The entourage was being made up, but the eight of us still needed to take showers and hurried up for the 30-minute travel from Tagbilaran to Antiquera.
Enough with the qualms, this is now my chance to once again check out the authentic Bohol's take on the Visayan cuisine, if there is such a thing.  First stop is the hotel's restaurant, Cafe Atanacio.

The gorgeous landscape of the whole hotel led to this massive parlour-like appeal to Cafe Atanacio.  The structure seemed to be floating on air from the facade and if you step further,  a pristine view of the the sea with boats and ships in harmony with the cool air and the sun's rays.   The next best thing to enjoying the whole captivating view was to savor their culinary.
To begin with...
Mushroom soup, not something Bol-anons would boast about though,
How about this one, Sinigang na Sugpo?
Hoping I'm getting your attention...
This heavenly Chopsuey will sure to keep you come back here.  Fresh veggies, sliced squids, and meats, dredged with mushroom sauce, I tell you nothing like it here in Manila, hhhmmm, let's see...(does this mean I m now trying more Chopsuey variations here in the metro?)
What they are really known for, Sinugbang Talakitok.  This is what my parents have been craving for since the thought of Phlippines exhausted their minds hours before their flight here in Manila.  Yes,  they are now happy, to have once again meet with this lovely entree.
They were actually tempted to order more dishes on the menu, but time holds us for the wedding, and we said we needed to have our tummies ready for the feast we will be partaking at the reception which the hotel will also be catering.
Next blog will still be about gastronomic partakings from our Bohol trip so do check it out soon.
How's that for a Food Trip Friday!

A Cocktail Dinner with Blush at Pan Pacific Hotel

Blush is an all-Asian girl group on mission to bring pop music into the world with a fun and edgy spin.
Considered as the "Pan Asian super group," these amazing ladies have their own stories to tell on how they have reached their spot.

The five girls making up the group came from different corners of Asia.    From South Korea, Ji Hae Lee, is  25 years old who never had a formal dance and vocal training but managed to make it to the top 30 of Superstar K (a Korean show like of American Idol).   Victoria Chan, being the eldest in the group represents China.  She was born however at Liverpool, England but grew up in Hong Kong.  The rapper and hip hopper of the group, Natsuko Danjo, is from Japan.   The one who carries the group into dancing should I say!  Never really thought a Japanese could groove so good.   Then India's Alisha Budhrani.   At an age of  19, she claims that she had done so many things that are quite international being born and raised in Hong Kong and having  went to British school could pay witness to that.   Lastly our very own Pinay,  Angeli Flores.   Coming from the Philippines, she had been very proud of our country, and was so excited to have the group, which are now her friends  visit Manila and perform for us Filipinos.

According to Angeli,  last year,  FarWest Entertainment hosted an Asian-wide talent search.   From 3,500 hopefuls, they narrowed the numbers down to 125 talents from each of the five countries; then to 60 each, and finally five per country. The remaining girls went through a reality show-type audition-and-elimination process in Hong Kong (minus the histrionics, mind you) to get the final five.

The Worst Airline Ever!

I am supposed to be at a hotel in Tagbilaran, Bohol,  by now, preparing and helping out with my aunt's wedding to be held tomorrow.   This is just going to be short.   I just need to air out some dismays and disappointment to Cebu Pacific.
As planned, we should be at Tagbilaran airport by  4 pm., since our flight from Manila is at 2:30 pm.   My aunts were all waiting for us at Bohol Tropics Hotel since my father, the eldest amongst the siblings will be with us at the same flight.   My parents came from Milan yesterday, and you might have guessed that they still haven't rested, with the body-clock issues and all.   All eight of us, both my parents, my four kids and my husband, were all excited to board the plane and of course getting to Bohol and meeting our relatives.   My father being the eldest, will be the one to bring my aunt to the altar, for my grandfather had already passed away.   So the pressure was really set on us getting there promptly.    To add to the stress, my two youngest daughters are parts of the entourage,  they are flower girls.    They haven't fitted the gowns they will be wearing yet, we are not sure even of what they would be wearing would look like.   Now, I know it is not the airline's problem or concern, nor does my parents' and daughter's diabetic condition.
However, we as customers have rights to what we have purchased.   Why would  anyone prefers to ride the plane instead of  getting somewhere by any means?   Time,  ease and  prestige are just some of the reasons.
Time:   We all know that by far an airplane can bring you anywhere faster than other vehicles.
For many it is what they are paying for, less time to consume traveling and time may equate to money.   If you need to attend an important conference or part of the business needs you to be on a trip, or in our case attend a very important ceremony which is wedding.
Ease:   The faster to go to a place means more practical ways to make use of time therefore less burden.   They are known to be clean and comfortable and safe, when travelling.
Prestige:  Not all uses plane, only those who can afford to buy tickets or those who might have gotten discounts on there boarding.
This is getting way too long.   Here is the thing.   Our flight just got cancelled.   Worse is that after waiting for half an our to board, we were unloaded from the plane and were told that we will not be able fly to Tagbilaran for geographical reasons.    Or just maybe something to say as a reason why.
So we went back inside the  airport to get everything fixed by 4 pm, the time which we should have been to our destination.    Tired, cold and hungry, we got our luggage back and waited for our flight rebooked, which took another two hours.
That settled and cheered us up for the moment, promising us that hotel accommodations will be provided in behalf of the mishap and to cover any unreasonables.    Happy knowing that for a night we will be spending at Pan Pacific with free dinner and having our flight moved to 7 am the following day.   Waited a few more hours for our shuttle ride to Pan Pacific, till the time we are to move, then Cebu Pacific's staff informed us that we will be sent to Nichol's Hotel.   We said, " What? "  "Where the ----- is that place?"   What happened to Pan Pacific's?   It was already 7 pm, my parents are miserably confused and needed to be somewhere clean and comfortable to check their sugar and inject insulin, the same thing we needed to do with our 7 year old daughter.
Let me tell you more bad things that happened concerning flights of Cebu Pacific.   While waiting for the shuttle inside the airport, a passenger just checking in was furious and bolting out loudly about his flight being cancelled.   Actually three or more Cebu Pacific flights have been cancelled and all the day's flight delayed.    A co-passenger then told us several issues they had regarding flights of the said company.   This made us think?   Should we buy from them still in the future?
We had several domestic flights this year and from previous years but this is the first time we had so much trouble like this.   Are promos from them bogus?   Are they just playing with us just to reason out for their short-comings?   How can they payback the lost times and cancelled meetings,  money lost taking that flight and others?   How can they explain to more than 400 passengers what really happened?
Too bad, more and more testimonies that our country is included in worsts airport in the world.    Foreigners were on that flights and they are to sadly attest how horrible flights are in the Philippines.
If they could have told us early on, that this flight will not be pushing through we may have made things to make up for it.   But we weren't.
So if you're planning a tour or a vacation. do consider checking out not just one airline.   Just letting out steams on my part.
Just consider this!   Credibility and trustworthy!

Remarkable Steak Experience and More at L'Entrecote

Would you believe that I totally ran out of words to start of.   I have been putting off for days the review for this seeming Parisian Bistro for some reasons.  One,  every time I think of the just the word "l'entrecote" my brain suddenly sends irrational neuron signals to different parts of my senses which leaves me day-dreaming then gets me fixated throughout the day, fixated to the taste and thought of the ultimate steak sauce ever.  Second reason is that I don't only want to awe my readers of how a brilliant observer I am (wishing and pushing my luck though of getting you interested in my writing even, nahhh!), but more so I want to invibe you to have a sort of  insightful obervation through the pictures and my description and then entice you, because I strongly recommend this place.   First-rate French cuisine, and to think this is a casual dining set-up.   The place may evoke class and finesse and not to mention being in Burgos Circle of Forbes Town  where fine dining and premier food choices is but just a commonplace.
Their menu is straightforward, downright comfort  from  a Swiss who married a Filipina, Chef Martin Kaspar's food.
Now prepare to be awed...
Foie Gras with Apricot Sauce and Melba Toast.
Alright, foie gras, a French word for fatty liver,  is a pâté  made from fattened goose liver.   I've read that geese are forced-fed, so to enlarge the liver.   It may be gruesome for others yet it served up to be fancy restaurants' lists of expensive dishes.   Too bad I wasn't able to ask Chef Martin how complicated the process may have been.   But I guess tasting the smooth, silky and rich flavor made my mouth enjoy it and thus forgot about its process and all.  Made even richer with peppered apricot sauce.  This is not my first time at this place
Pissaladeire with Onions, Anchovies and Black Olives.    Another stark beginning for a stark lunch or dinner.   A pizza-like dish, where a crusted bread topped with caramelized onions, slightly-salty anchovies and my favorite pizza-topper, black olives, whole and pitted, not sliced!  The irony, is that I usually avoid onions, when eating salads or any dish where it is a major ingredient,  but the sweetness made through caramelizing  made it really appetizing, and indeed it was good, were the tartness and saltiness plays gorgeously in my mouth.
Crispy freshness in every bite.   These Melba Toasts are the perfect partner to the Foie Gras.   Bite-sized already and light.   Another thing that I consider with toasts and newly-baked breads are the sound.  Kkkkssshh,  should echo in the quaint corner of the room when you crack it or munch in to it.
Three Mushroom Pie.  The name said it all.
Inside the crispy hot phyllo are wild mushrooms.  Don't hesitate to glide it on the vinaigrette around the plate and you will discover  a different taste.
The house salad made more scrumptious with walnuts making it rustic, yet even more satisfying.
Seared Foie Gras on  mashed potato with restaurant-made peppered-pineapple jam.  A different take on liver-made dishes.   The fruity sauce paired with that perfect bit of crispy fat  on the edge of a grilled steak taste.   Foie gras is bit mystifying for me, if you haven't tried it yet it is kind of like the taste of the beefy bone marrow,  melt in your mouth experience without the bitter taste of any liver.  Well that's what they serve, i just don't know how other restaurants.

Fine Flat noodles for times when you need to load up on carbohydrates.   Choose from two kinds of sauce,  above is the spinach  cream sauce.   More of like a Pesto sauce without the strong, pungent aroma and taste of basil.   I love green veggie-based pasta sauces.   But if you're not, you may try this, this has the creamy spell without the leafy-taste of spinach but loads of vitamins and minerals, which is good for the whole family.  Toppings also can be chosen,  This has lobster slices on it.  Among the other options are having it with Lapu-Lapu fillets or Grilled beef tips.

Fine Flat Noodles with Tomato-Chili-Herb Sauce topped with seared Lapu-Lapu.  A tangy fresh tomato based pasta dish.
And now, I give you L'entrecote grilled USA Prime Steaks bathing on secret herb butter sauce, served with french fries..  Spine-chilling as I try to recollect how I felt with the first experience with this drool-worthy dish. L'entrecote, as Chef Martin have explained from the beginning for it's namesake, is a French word for a prime cut of steak, making it a rare and exclusive steak.   And the signature sauce  concocted from  31 ingredients.
Raspeberry and Caramelized Walnut Ice Vacherin.   This dessert was included in Inquirer's top 20 desserts.   So no exaggeration has to be made at all.  Simply delightful without feeling guilty on the sweet.
Crepes Suzzette with Vanilla Ice cream.   Mango lovers would surely grab a plate of this.
A tower of Meringue with Vanilla and Strawberry Ice cream, on a dazzling plate of chocolate syrup, fresh strawberries and nuts.
Chef Martin Kaspar, owner and head chef.   All thanks to him , now I have food-dementia, a syndrome where another lunch at  L'entrecote is the medication.
Seriously, this man deserves all the applause.  He put French comfort food on the pedestal of  casual dining but with a touch of opulence.  As family-man himself he value not only good food but healthy and fresh ingredients that make great food.
Kids are welcome here also, since they are open during Sundays, families with kids would have lunch here.   Treats await any kids who looks for heavy and meaty goodness of  L'entrecote Steaks and Fries.

Here is where to find them

Wanting and Getting More for Less at mySulitDeals.com

I have made mention many  a times how practicality and great time with family and friends go hand in hand.   Having to raise up a family of  six plus extended family members, plus multiplying numbers of friends, wanting to please them all  at certain times would cost you  lot, I mean  lot!   Often times we tend to forget about ourselves in the process.   Putting more pressures to us, ending up in frustrations and beginning the cycling effect all over again.   Indeed having  a sizable amount in your wallet is always an advantage or  credit card for that matter, which I don't really suggest,  but a cunning move says it all.
Not many know that I value practicality but not to the point of putting off quality.   Gone are the days that you wear branded and expensive T-shirts and jeans just to show off and shout  to everyone you are able.   Hhhmmm...however it made me think that now since time had evolved and innovations come like raindrops in the sky, people still had that same mentality, but  have side-tracked however to techie gadgets.   And how about social media bragging, everyone seemed to be in compete with were one is at or where one had eaten lunch and of course the photos that never seemed to end loading up about summer escapades or tours the families enjoyed.   And the long list  continuous.
So how can a simple mom like me, who has no work, has four kids living comfortably,  with a husband who has to be made king (at all times and me a queen every time) at certain times, manages to spend a fine dinner at several restaurants  or have  weekend excursions to enchantment every month?
This have never been  a secret,  online deals,  voucher purchases,  Gift cheques, social media promos are just  a few of what I have used so far.   I bet you may have registered on something like those I mentioned, unless you are like somebody who spends money like there's no tomorrow anymore.   But frankly never in my entire blogging life have I given any hint  on where to go for deals and stuff.    I tell you, there are  a lot but only  few are truly credible, the least to my standard.
This time I'll be pointing out a very promising company who provides deals, discounts and promotions for products of all types.   Considering the fact that the company is new, in clean slate and having immersed to the idea of valuing the worth of services and products by taking care of both the buyers' and merchants' needs.
For those who have businesses but aren't getting target markets and thus getting less returns from their investments, ADSTBLE, Inc.  is your solution.   Through mySulit.com, they could provide whatever clients may need online- from start-ups to well-established firms – to leverage social media and help clients’ companies grow. "We help our clients create traffic of buyers making your products known, not just locally but globally as well,” said Michael Legaspi, managing director of ADSTABLE, Inc. (sole owner of mySulitDeals.com).  Legaspi wanted something that would finally help marketers and clients understand how to utilize social media marketing concepts in a practical and efficient manner. mySulitDeals.com shares all the tools and techniques one needs – the guy or gal people want to be friends with and whose business gets talked about constantly. “ADSTABLE thru mySulitDeals.com gets you on the right track and ultimately grow your business,” Legaspi noted. The strategy of getting the best business solutions via online has gained an unlimited rise of sales worldwide, it’s a battle cry for any businesses to grow, measure, expand and optimize their online presence. The social media movement has provided the business owner powerful tools for reaching thousands of prospects and clients at the click of a mouse. However, without a strong business strategy and knowledge of online marketing, these tools are often in vain. Success in this new media requires you to partner with a strong business mindset.
Considering the fact that the company is new, in clean slate and having immersed to the idea of valuing the worth of services and products by taking care of both the buyers' and merchants' needs.
“What makes us inherently different from our competitors?  We charge only a reasonable percentage for every sale of the deal. The goal is to help our clients make more money. That goal is our outcome. We market their business and the payment gateway. We apply this golden rule: No Sale No Charge Policy. Our prospects will have the chance to have their deals featured and be overwhelmed of the high rise in sales,” Legaspi explained.
mySulitDeals.com simply amplifies their success. It is in fact the framework you absolutely must have to attract people to your product and service. “Our company provides clear solution to complex product advertisements and marketing while using our unique expertise and skills in understanding the buyers’ attitude and interest.” From its essence to its look and feel, business model, affiliations, and so on, it has never been more important to thoroughly plan your brand. mySulitDeals.com is the perfect channel for allowing people to get a taste of your product or service – it’s sampling made easy.
