Oktoberfest returns to Newport World Resorts for four festive nights

The communal Bavarian spirit thrives on shared long wooden tables and social hospitality rooted in historic beer halls with friends and family celebrating together, can now be experienced without even flying to Munich, as the Philippines’ premier leisure and entertainment destination brings back Oktoberfest.  Now on its fourth year, The Ballroom of Hilton Manila Newport World Resorts will again host it on from October 28 to 31.

For four nights, the ballroom takes on the convivial spirit of a Bavarian beer hall, where long tables fill with guests, steins make their way around the room, and the celebration grows as the evening unfolds.

A proper Oktoberfest begins with beer in hand. Weihenstephaner flows throughout the evening, with Weiss, Wheat, and Dunkel served on tap, bringing to the table nearly a thousand years of brewing heritage. All the way from the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan in Freising, Germany, it is recognized as the world’s oldest brewery. It is a fitting meeting of two enduring Bavarian traditions, with a beer steeped in history poured for a festival celebrated for more than two centuries.

I was able to be a part of last year's and this year's media preview and can't say I wasn't impressed for a non-beer drinker.  I was surprised of myself as not only that I got to love and stuffed myself with a variety of German sausages, roasts and a lot more traditional German dishes, I also had my share of Weihenstephaner draft beer, one of Germany's best beer.

The first pour makes way for a full Bavarian feast prepared by the award-winning culinary team of Newport World Resorts. Warm laugen pretzels and German breads are passed around the table before plates make room for sausages, crispy pork knuckle, schnitzel, and other hearty favorites, with traditional sweets waiting at the end of the meal.

Then the room gets louder. AnTon Showband returns from Bavaria for all four nights, filling The Ballroom with the familiar songs and playful energy that make sitting quietly through Oktoberfest nearly impossible. Before long, voices join the music, steins rise with every cheer, and the space between the tables becomes part of the celebration.

The revelry eventually finds its way into some friendly competition, which I have gladly indulged myself with and bagging P5000 Gift Cheque for winning second in Stein Holding.   Guests, male and female can test their strength at Stein Holding, race for bragging rights at Beer Chugging, or try their hand at Hammerschlagen as the rest of the room rallies behind them.

By then, Oktoberfest has become less about what is on the program and more about what is happening around the table. After four years at Newport World Resorts, the annual celebration continues to bring the spirit of the Bavarian tradition to Manila through an evening meant to be shared, joined, and remembered long after the final Prost.
