Festive celebration of the richly-diverse Filipino culinary culture will stir up the Christmas spirit with the simultaneous staging of the Kain Na! Food & Travel Festival of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in Davao City, Pampanga, and Laguna this coming Dec. 7-9.

DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said Kain Na! will showcase the specialties of local cuisine in the food & travel-fest’s latest edition that will be held at Davao City Ayala Mall; the Marquee Mall in Angeles City, Pampanga; and at the Ayala Mall, Solenad, Laguna.

“Travel experience, especially during the holidays, is really more fun when served with the fusion of the unique Filipino hospitality and delectable Filipino food,” said Puyat.

Puyat said the series of events, held in partnership with the Ayala Malls, aims to promote distinct regional Filipino cuisine, as well as tourism destinations. The first edition was launched with two simultaneous events in Legazpi City, Albay and Cebu City last October while the launch in Cagayan de Oro was done in November.

“Each of the venues will feature prominent local chefs for degustation of distinguished guests. There is no way I’m going to miss this once in a lifetime degustation of Davao’s exotic gourmet,” said Puyat.

“Of course, Pampanga, the Culinary Capital of the Philippines will delight food enthusiasts with its renowned sisig, morcon, tocino, lumpiang ubod and many more,” added Puyat.

Slated to take the stage in Davao City are Chef Paolo Garcia and Chef Datu Shariff Khaled Pendatun with their recipes, Tinunuang Pirit, Kagikit + Sinagapuna, and Pako Ensalada + Keso Itum; and Chef Bang Sibala with his Malagos dark chocolate cake, Durian panna cotta, and Mangosteen peanut oat bars.

Featured Pampanga chefs and their recipes include: Atching Lillian, San Nicolas, prenda, and suklating; Batirul Chef Sau, sisig, bringhe; Chef Vince, seafood paella; Chef Cherry, catfish fillet on fermented rice and shrimp wrapped in mustard leaves; Chef Josie, tollhouse baked mac; Chef Jam; Adlai Chef Don, sampayin; Apalit Chef Heinz, bibingkang halayang ube with pastillas.

To hug the limelight in CaLaBaRZon are Chef Angelica Costales and Chef Joel Frago from Laguna, Chef Alfonso Rafael Ranido from Quezon province, Chefs Vic Dimawano, Fabian Maximilian Cabriga and Gene Gonzales from Cavite, Chef Nomer Maala from Batangas, and Chef Andre Vocalan from Rizal with their special recipes.

Exhibitors will include hotels and restaurants, farm resorts, agro industry groups, eco-farm adventure parks, transport operators, and academe.

The local tourism offices will present specialty food products, coffee, vegetables, juices, handicrafts, and culinary tour packages.

The food and travel fair will be open to the public free of charge.

I'll be in the Laguna leg of the celebration, see you there!
