Nutella and Bacon, Better Together


It's my third time to join the WORLD NUTELLA DAY and I have never been more ecstatic.  Though I have to make a quick visit to the nearby grocery store to buy a jar of chocolate hazelnut goodness, which spells Nutella, it didn't mind and nothing hampered me to participate in this year's global event for Nutella lovers.

Today, February 5, 2014, bloggers all over the globe are making waves, as recipes upon recipes, photos of Nutella and how it's indulged, are being shared and compiled at World Nutella Day website.  The event is being led by Sara from Ms. Adventures in Italy and Michelle from Bleeding Espresso, now already running on it's 8th year despite some issues met  months back.

My share to the exciting and yummy event - the recipe Nutella Bacon Brownies.


Are those brownies calling your name or what?

THE NUTELLA BACON BROWNIES
Ingredients:

1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup nutella hazelnut spread
1 cup crumbled bacon (fried and dripped bacon in bits)

To do: 

1. Whisk in the sugar with the butter until combined.
2. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla.
3. Slowly add the Nutella.
3. Dump in the dry ingredients and mix until combined, add bacon then pour the batter into the prepared pan.
4. Bake for 35-40 minutes at 350 C or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out with a few crumbs clinging to it. Allow brownies to cool for at least 45 minutes.

For the Love of Pizza and Nutella

 How can you say " I love you"  better?  How about with a jar of  Ferrero Rocher's Nutella?   Or how  about with pizza?   Since Valentine's Day is just  a few days away,  a certain local pizza chain has been creating them in heart shapes.  Sounds clever,  right?  How is this better,  Nutella Pizza?   
Last February 5,  lover's of Nutella celebrated  World Nutella Day.  So how do they celebrate?  In our house Nutella is everything.   You will never see it inside the pantry but you will always see spoons licked because of it, and it is always on the counter, on the computer table, almost everywhere.   So you know that a medium jar doesn't take us days to finish.   As part of that occassion, I have prepared a pizza, a different kind of pizza.   A gianduja pizza with healthy treats topped on it.
Here are the things you may need:
Small wholewheat Tortillas
Nutella 
walnuts, or any nuts
dried cranberries, or raisins
apple chips (non-fry, dehydrated)
To assemble it:
On a cookie sheet, put the tortillas, spread Nutella over it.  Top with nuts, and dried fruits.   You may put bacon or  mild  cheese, or just be crazy with what ever that struck your fancy .   I played Dr. Jekyll and Hyde part as I was doing this.   
Together with the other participants, Nutella is the major ingredient in all the recipes shared.   So there is a limitless way of devouring  or just enjoying the world's number one chocolate spread.   And this is my shot!

Nutella by Dana Banana



One time my son chatted with my brother who was in Italy, he was asked by my brother what he might want , coz' a friend of them will be visiting Manila.   And guess what my son asked, a big bottle of Nutella. 
Don't get me wrong, we do have Nutella here, which can be bought at some groceries or supermarkets.    It just surprised me that my brother did sent us a medium sized bottle of it.
Like good peanut butters it is really best eaten on a spoon, well my kids find it fun tasting with their fingers as in fingers.   We usually spread it on breads.   But my daughter Dana, discovered it is eaten best with bananas, just dipping it in, oh no in the bottle.   I think it works well with some other fruits like hmmm, my favorite strawberries.   I still have to find out myself what other fruits would really compliment the hazel-nutty flavor of the chocolate treat.

I did use it in some of my baked goodies.

Here I used it to top my brownies instead of the usual chocolate frosting.


Before, I mixed it in a muffin batter and make Hazelnut Chocolate Marble Muffin.
