Japan's sought-after season, the “sakura” or cherry blossom, symbolizes spring time, the season of the year
have been celebrated for centuries in such art forms as haiku, ukiyo-e (woodblock prints), and traditional music. In a culture deeply imbued with Buddhism, the bloom of the beautiful sakura are a natural symbol of the notion of impermanence, a yearly reminder of the transience of all life.
This makes the season at its busiest, what drives thousands of tourists to Japan yearly.
It has been in my family's bucket list and we believe, if the Lord and time permits, we will also experience it's awesomeness. For the mean time, we are ringing in the Japanese cherry blossom tradition.
Tenya, Japan’s #1 Tempura Tendon, has released a special sakura-themed sets for cherry blossom fans like us and we don’t need to book a flight for it.
After watching the Avengers Infinity War at ATC, we headed to Tenya's Filinvest branch.
There we had our own take on their signature tempura donburi, the Sakura Tendon set. The set is composed of Japanese rice topped with 2 Black Tiger Prawns, Itoyori fish (Seabream), Okiami (Krill) Kakiage, Nori and Green Beans, with Original Don Tare sauce poured over, and served with miso soup.
Apart from that, you can also enjoy a sakura feast with the Sakura Teishoku, a festive set that consists of a basket of 2 Black Tiger Prawns, Itoyori fish (Seabream), Okiami (krill) Kakiage, Nori and Green Beans with Cold Somen, Japanese rice and potato salad on the side.
To heighten the cherry blossom feeling, Tenya partnered with Origami Philippines to create sakura-shaped lampshades. With the ambiance set right just for this season, we felt like we were transported right under where the sakura is.
Allow me to commend the people of the the Filinvest branch. We came a little over 9 PM and saw they were already cleaning up and had just prepped to close. But upon seeing us, the doorman alerted and asked the manager or the kitchen staff if they can still accommodate us, and we so much appreciate the gesture, we were still allowed to dine in.
It was actually a pre-birthday celebration, a simple family dinner, and they didn't denied us of it, though we didn't say it was for that purpose. Hard to find a restaurant who thinks of their guests first and with a service as if you were the first guest of the day, we love their service!
With that, why not mark the beautiful cherry blossom tradition with a trip to Tenya for a sakura celebration unlike any other! Visit Tenya in its branches at SM Megamall, Market! Market!, BGC Stopover, Paseo de Magallanes, SM Mall of Asia, Aseana City, Festival Mall and SM Southmall.
Tenya’s limited edition sets are available from April 5 to June 30, 2018, at Php355 for the Sakura Tendon Set, and Php 415 for the Sakura Teishoku Set.
