Fool-proof Brunch And Brew Pairings at Caffe Freddo

Another specialty coffee and all-day brunch place has popped up at Bonifacio Highstreet and it's no doubt gaining bragging rights from its patrons.

This new cafe features a modern minimalist look making it cozy and Instagramable. Its off-white distressed brick walls, ample seating good for 50 people, and columns with hand-painted coffee plants in vibrant hues of green and red makes Caffe Freddo cozy enough for group meet-ups and family dining.

CAFFE FREDDO prides itself in offering a very unique selection of coffee, not found anywhere else in the metro. The coffee selection is all specially brewed from premium coffee beans of Bluestone Lane from New York City.

How it all started

Caffe Freddo is a beautiful result of a partnership between two power companies- The Spa Wellness and BonChon, one of the largest fast casual restaurants in the country.  According to owner, Scott Tan, “Third wave is very much alive, and as a coffee drinking country, I think the time is ripe to bring in premium coffee that is more than just a caffeine fix. I believe coffee can be something really special.” Scott adds, “My philosophy in business has always been… anyone and everyone deserves good food, and that includes beverages, and because I’m a fan of Bluestone Lane in New York city, I’ve decided to bring their coffee beans to local shores.”

Learning about Bluestone Lane Coffee

Bluestone Lane is an Australian-inspired coffee shop and lifestyle brand that offers premium coffee and healthy brunch meals. The birth of Bluestone Lane Coffee came from Melbourne Australia’s coffee culture, where Aussies consider premium coffee to be a way of life. Bluestone Lane is currently expanding with 11 cafes, and 28 coffee shops across the US and one in Canada. Most of its locations are based in New York City.

According to Time Out New York, Bluestone Lane is listed as the best brunch spot in NYC, and in an interview with Vogue, the brand was described as “the koala mafia of coffee”. The coffee giant has also ventured into distributing their own line of premium coffee beans which they roast themselves in a roastery in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Their versatile roast profiles are the main base for Caffe Freddo’s unique drink selection.

A new standard, a unique drink selection

Caffe Freddo creates a new standard of coffee, which can be enjoyed either as a treat in the middle of the afternoon, or a daily staple to get you through your mornings.

The Freddo

They are especially proud of the cafĂ©’s namesake, The Freddo, an iced coffee drink with a double shot of espresso and sweetened thick frothed milk. The Freddo also comes in Mocha, Chai and Coco variants.

Kendo Rose

Another unique blend worth trying is Caffe Freddo’s coffee with a kick, named Kendo Rose. It has a double shot of espresso, tonic water, rose syrup, and lemon. Most coffee shops offer limited milk options. At Caffe Freddo, customers can choose from whole milk, almond milk, coconut milk and oat milk. Coffee price ranges from P100-P190.

All-day Brunch Menu

Brunch wouldn't be complete with just coffee, well for some, but to make the most of your dining experience, be sure to try their carefully-curated Modern European brunch menu put together by Chef Markus Gfeller, who is the heart and soul behind the gastronomic creations. Chef Gfeller is known to have pioneered the fine dining experience in the 90s. He now leads a team of chefs for Caffe Freddo, to offer high-quality dishes with the freshest ingredients, but at much affordable price points.

Most brunch places serve the usual white rice for their breakfast fare. At Caffe Freddo, you can customize your all-day breakfast bowl, with your choice of white rice, brown rice, or savory oats.

House Smoked Bacon Steak on Brown Rice (290)

During the launch held yesterday (Monday) we got to try some of their unique all-day brunch meals.

Three Hummus Tartine

Tartine in French means a slice of bread, usually eaten with butter or jam.  At Caffe Freddo, open-faced sandwiches have gotten a whole new level.  How about having a grilled slice of sourdough slathered with three kinds of hummus?

The three Hummus Tartine is like an art form with classic hummus, herb and beet, fractionally settled over what is considered as the healthiest bread, embellished with cute pink edible flowers.

They also have it in avocado and buffalo (Stracciatella cheese), and a line up off equally delectable sandwiches.

Health buffs rejoice as they also offer Muesli Bowl (P 300) - Greek Yogurt, oat and granola muesli with fruits and berries.

Over at their Breakfast Menu,  they have a category designated for the love of eggs.

We just can't get over these plate of these Two Eggs Benedict over House Smoked Canadian Bacon and muffins.

This  budding cafe is not only into breakfast and brunch, if you want to lounge over good coffee concoctions and pair it with other menu offerings then you've come to the proper place.  To prove my point, how about some flatbreads.

These are reminiscent of Chef Chris Locher's panizzas, but the breads are crispier.  Four different kinds are up on the menu, but the photo above was the one to try as it's a combination of savory and sweetness.  It is covered with melted burrata, caramelized onion, arugula and the dried figs giving it enough sweetness.

Fried Chicken Confit and Fries
We are also loving the main dishes. Perfectly battered chicken goes so well with the salad and the fries.

Nasi Goreng

Popular mains include the Fried Chicken Confit and Fries, Nasi Goreng and Aglio Olio Pancetta.  My Dana couldn't get enough of the Aglio Olio Pancetta, considering she's the type who loves Carbonara.

Banana Trifle

No meal is complete without dessert, and Caffe Freddo offers a delightful array of desserts such as the Mango Granita, Greek Yogurt Panna Cotta, and Warm Berry Crumble. Prices range from P200-P380.

Operating hours are from 7am to 11pm from Mondays to Sundays. For updates, follow Caffe Freddo PH on Instagram and Facebook.
